The Minimum Wages Board

The Minimum Wages Board 2024-2025 (“the Board”) resumes its inquiry with its Terms of Reference as follows:
a) Assess the effectiveness of the current method and criteria for wage adjustments as specified in the 2014 Minimum Wages Board Determination, along with its implications.
b) Consider the needs of employees and their families, taking into account the general level of wages, the cost of living, and the relevant living standards of other groups in Papua New Guinea.
c) Evaluate economic factors, including the requirements of economic development, levels of productivity, the level of inflation, and the level of unemployment.
d) Analyse the likely effect upon these economic factors of any determination that the Board is considering or proposing to make under this Part.
e) Review any other matters as the Minimum Wages Board considers relevant.

Submissions

Invitations for submissions on the National Minimum Wage, and the Review of the 2014 Minimum Wages Determination, is open for all interested persons and parties. Submissions are encouraged to be delivered in writing, via e-mail and/or presentations before the Board. Submissions can also be delivered to the office of the Minimum Wages Board, 2 nd Floor of Gaukara Rumana, Department
of Labour & Industrial Relations, and/or delivered to the Provincial Labour Officer at any Regional Labour Office within Papua New Guinea

Conduct of Hearings

The Board will conduct 2-day hearings in most centers of the country, and 1 full week of hearings in Lae, Mt Hagen, Goroka and Port Moresby, respectively.

The following regional centers will be visited;
1. SOUTHERN – Kerema, Popondetta, Alotau, Daru, Kiunga, Port Moresby
2. ISLANDS – Manus, Kavieng/Namatanai, Kimbe, Kokopo & Doy
3. MOMASE – Madang, Vanimo, Wewak & Maprik, Lae
4. UPPER HIGHLANDS – Mt Hagen Hearings for Jiwaka, Mendi, Tari, and Wabag will also be conducted in Mt. Hagen.
5. LOWER HIGHLANDS – Goroka Hearings for Simbu will also be conducted in Goroka.
