Mr. Taunakekei was the Executive Manager – Workforce & Organisation Development at Department of Personnel Management before joining the Department of Labour & Industrial Relations.

Under Mr. Taunakekei’s leadership and administration, the department has achieved notable milstone with the legal enforcement of Internation Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions, marking critical step in aligning Papua New Guinea’s labour policies with global standards. The department has also advanced in key reforms including labour law reviews, the re-establishment of the Minimum Wages Board, and enhanced compliance monitoring through strengthened labour inspections.
