Program 5: Occupational Safety & Health

The Occupational Health and Safety Programme deals with protecting the safety, health and welfare of employees. The Programme fosters safe and healthy work environment, undertakes and conducts planned and demand-driven inspections on employer’s facilities and workplaces. It,
likewise, monitors and enforces the OSH statutory requirements and ensures that safety and health compliance requirements are adhered to.

Functional Responsibilities

The functional responsibilities of the Occupational Safety and Health Programme are to:
• inspect, test, certify and register classified plants and equipment, inflammable liquids, dangerous goods and facilities, and explosive storage and facilities;
• check all workplaces to ensure health and safety requirements are complied with;
• test and examine trade personnel;
• conduct OSH awareness programmes for industries and employees; and
• conduct training for OHS inspectors.
