The National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board

The National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Board is established under the Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Act 1986. The Act describes the functions and activities of the NATTB, through its administrative arm, the Secretariat. While the development of polices rest with the NATTB, the administration of the apprenticeship training scheme and the trade testing and certification system is carried out by the Secretariat, and remains the responsibility of the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations and the National Department of Education.

Functional Responsibilities

The functional responsibilities of the NATTB are to:
• contribute to sustainable socio-economic development;
• facilitate and increase employment of skilled workers in both the formal and informal sectors;
• improve the capacity of the NATTB for on-going collection and analysis of data and information required for   effective planning and management;
• encourage partnership with industries to strengthen the marketing and promotion of the National Apprenticeship and Trade Testing Systems; and
• develop new occupational skill standards and promote the expansion of facilities and resources for testing and assessments.
